In and Through Us

“The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely.”
― Louisa May Alcott

“The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us. Thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing. The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as well as our souls, and every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks in the heart of the mountains is our song, our very own, and sings our love.”― John Muir

A new week.
The last week of August.
Summer’s dance with fall.
Seasons. Transitions. Harvest.
Start. Middle. Finish.
Repeat. Grow. Change.
Enter the rhythm and flow.
Become apart of it rather than lamenting or fighting it.
The gift of joy given freely in beauty, seasons, celebration of ordinary days.

“Joy is not produced because others praise you. Joy emanates unbidden and unforced. Joy comes as a gift when you least expect it. At those fleeting moments you know why you were put here and what truth you serve. You may not feel giddy at those moments, you may not hear the orchestra’s delirious swell or see flashes of crimson and gold, but you will feel a satisfaction, a silence, a peace—a hush. Those moments are the blessings and the signs of a beautiful life.”― David Brooks, The Road to Character

Autumn Awakened

“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all.” – Stanley Horowitz

“And the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep and autumn was awakened.” – Raquel Franco

The brilliant color of autumn leaves doesn’t linger as long as the flowers of spring and summer.
Here but for a breath, a blink, a minute.
Ablaze with orange, gold, red at the same time.
A mosaic of all seasons.
Do not miss the show pining for summer behind, dreading winter ahead.
Seasons, cycles, circles have their place and purpose in our journey.
To prepare, to anticipate, to savor, to plant, to bloom, to die, to life, again and again.
Dance to tune of the season, anchored in beauty in each, held in delight.

“There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been.” – Percy Bysshe Shelley

Interrupted by Beauty

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” – Emily Brontë

“Go, sit upon the lofty hill, And turn your eyes around, Where waving woods and waters wild Do hymn an autumn sound. The summer sun is faint on them— The summer flowers depart— Sit still— as all transform’d to stone, Except your musing heart.” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Hit the brakes
Swerve to the side
Stop in your tracks
Interrupted by beauty
Ablaze with joy
Frozen in awe
Awaken to the beauty abound and around
At your feet
In abundance, all for the taking, holding, embracing
Seize moments within the day
Transformed to your musing heart
Harvest time.

“Autumn that year painted the countryside in vivid shades of scarlet, saffron, and russet, and the days were clear and crisp under the harvest skies.” – Sharon Kay Penman

October Bloom

“I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves.”– Ann Drake

“October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!”― Rainbow Rowell , Attachments

Crisp mornings and eves
Warm sun nestled between
Colors transforming into a rich tapestry
Remain and rest in the beauty of October harvest and bounty
Preparation for dormancy to return yet again to spring
Take a season at a time and open the gifts each offers.

“There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir: We must rise and follow her, When from every hill of flame She calls, and calls each vagabond by name.”― William Bliss
