Overflowing Beauty of Being

“Beauty is the harvest of presence.”― David Whyte, Consolations

“The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms.”— Thich Nhat Hanh

What can I do?
So often, the best thing we can do, is be.
Be present.
Be aware.
Be awake.
Be connected.
Be kind.
Be alive.
Moving from mind to heart and spirit.
In a beautiful, brilliant. lovely, glorious world.
Inside and out.
Awaiting our arrival to awe, wonder, gratitude.
Daily.

“What is precious
inside us does not
care to be known
by the mind
in ways that diminish
its presence.”
― David Whyte

Enchantment in, through, with this Day

“Every day is filled with opportunities to be amazed, surprised, enthralled—to experience the enchanting everyday. To stay eager. To be, in a word, alive.”― Rob Walker, The Art of Noticing

“We seldom notice how each day is a holy place
Where the eucharist of the ordinary happens,
Transforming our broken fragments Into an eternal continuity that keeps us.
Somewhere in us a dignity presides
That is more gracious than the smallness
That fuels us with fear and force,
A dignity that trusts the form a day takes.
So at the end of this day, we give thanks
For being betrothed to the unknown
And for the secret work
Through which the mind of the day
And wisdom of the soul become one.”
– John O’Donohue, The Inner History of a Day, To Bless the Space Between Us

To shape and be shaped.
To hold and release.
To root and reach.
To be present and awake.
Receiving the eucharist of this moment.
Communion with all that is, was and will be.
Woven in ordinary days with extraordinary grace, gratitude and most of all love.
Quiet mind.
Soft heart.
Knowing soul amidst the unknown.
The form a day takes when we enter with awe, wonder, wisdom.
Overflowing with possibility, promise, delight.
To shape and be shaped.
Each day, a holy place.

“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind”― Caroline Myss

Just

“Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.” – Chinese Proverb

“Don’t Just

Don’t just learn, experience.
Don’t just read, absorb.
Don’t just change, transform.
Don’t just relate, advocate.
Don’t just promise, prove.
Don’t just criticize, encourage.
Don’t just think, ponder.
Don’t just take, give.
Don’t just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don’t just hear, listen.
Don’t just talk, act.
Don’t just tell, show.
Don’t just exist, live.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

As Though I Had Wings

“The day I understood everything, was the day I stopped trying to figure everything out. The day I knew peace was the day I let everything go.”― C. JoyBell C.

“When I say it’s you I like, I’m talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.”― Fred Rogers

“I want to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.” – Mary Oliver

Marvel and Delight

“Sometimes love does not look like what you had in mind.” – Anne Lamott

“O thou who are trying to learn the marvel of Love through the copybook of reason, I am very much afraid you will never see the point.”― Hafez

Not looking back.
Rehashing, repurposing old things.
Blocking the path for new things arise and take hold.
Aiming too low.
Remaining too small.
Foreboding joy.
Put down filters, assumptions.
New pair of glasses.
Fresh eyes.
One beautiful day at a time.
More than enough.

“What Do sad people have in Common? It seems They have all built a shrine To the past And often go there And do a strange wail and Worship. What is the beginning of Happiness? It is to stop being So religious Like That.”― Hafez

Skyful of Wonder

“Whatever it is I am saying, I always
Need a leaf or a flower, if not an
Entire field. As for sky, I am wildly
In love with each day’s inventions, cool blue
Or cat gray or full
Of the ships of clouds, I simply can’t
Say whatever it is I am saying without
At least one skyful. That leaves water, a
Creek or a well, river or ocean, it has to be
There. For the heart to be there. For the pen
To be poised. For the idea to come.” – Mary Oliver

“I would love to live like a river flows,
carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.”― John O’Donohue

Margins, space, pause
To the surprise of unfolding
To open the gift of awareness
Eagle view
To fall into the sky
Full with wonder.

“The soul does not grow by addition but by subtraction.” – Meister Eckhart

Suppleness of Mind, Radical Amazement

“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement....Get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed.” – Rabbi Heschel

“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement….Get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed.” – Rabbi Heschel

“Until we know the assumptions in which we are drenched, we cannot know ourselves.”― Adrienne Rich

Suppleness of mind.
Generosity of spirit.
Lightness of heart.
Invitation of belonging.
Gift of encouragement.
To calm the internal, when the external thrives on fear and chaos.
Steadfast in hope, kindness, courage, reflection, awe, connection, wonder, compassion, joy, amazement.
Radical amazement amidst the hard work and waiting for and of transformation.
Cast light.

“We often think that there is just one way to look at things – the way we always have. In fact, there are an infinite number of ways to look at most everything. An open mind allows for a multitude of perspectives from which to choose in any given moment. That suppleness of mind allows for true choice, and opens us to a whole new realm of possibility.”― Jeffrey R. Anderson, The Nature of Things – Navigating Everyday Life with Grace

Off Path to Wonder

“The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter” – Mark Twain

“Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs.”― Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre

Less doing, busy, transactions
More making, building, creating
Color, oxygen, joy, light, music, art, nature, fun
To root, renew, restore
A sense of wonder and awe
Ease  and delight found in wandering off path, discovery
Gratitude in praise
For another day
And the sense and openness to breathe it all in
Walk lightly, with anticipation and delight.

“Forgiveness is a refusal to armor your own heart—a refusal to live in a constricted heart,” he said, seemingly as much to himself as to me. “Living with that openness means feeling pain. It’s not pretty, but the alternative is feeling nothing at all.”― Suleika Jaouad, Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted

Listening and Long Thoughts

“Nothing is holier, nothing is more exemplary than a beautiful, strong tree. When a tree is cut down and reveals its naked death-wound to the sun, one can read its whole history in the luminous, inscribed disk of its trunk: in the rings of its years, its scars, all the struggle, all the suffering, all the sickness, all the happiness and prosperity stand truly written, the narrow years and the luxurious years, the attacks withstood, the storms endured.” – Herman Hesse, Bäume: Betrachtungen und Gedichte

“So the tree rustles in the evening, when we stand uneasy before our own childish thoughts: Trees have long thoughts, long-breathing and restful, just as they have longer lives than ours. They are wiser than we are, as long as we do not listen to them. But when we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy. Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness.”― Herman Hesse, Bäume: Betrachtungen und Gedichte

Narrow years and luxurious years, months, days, moments.
How to spend time?
Squander, invest, speed, savor.
Ease in intensity.
Rest, pause, awe, wonder to direct time, attention, reverence.
Rooting in connection, creation, patience.
Long thoughts that lead to incomparable joy.
Sustenance for the journey.
Making, building, creating with intention, resolve, right action.
Walking in love.

“To hold our tongues when everyone is gossiping, to smile without hostility at people and institutions, to compensate for the shortage of love in the world with more love in small, private matters; to be more faithful in our work, to show greater patience, to forgo the cheap revenge obtainable from mockery and criticism: all these are things we can do. ”― Hermann Hesse

Slow Ride, Long Cut

“The glory of God is the human person fully alive.”― Irenaeus of Lyons

“In Buddhism, the concept of “being busy as a form of laziness” refers to the idea that constantly filling one’s time with activities, often superficial or distracting, can be a way of avoiding deeper self-reflection and spiritual practice, essentially acting as a form of mental laziness, even if outwardly appearing very busy; this is often called “Kausīdya” in Sanskrit, meaning ‘spiritual sloth.’”- AI search

Slow, pause, stop.
Look up and in to see expanse, depth, width.
Anchor, root, reach, imagine.
Less busy, more reflection.
Shorten the list to the essentials, discard the rest.
Recalibrate, reroute, carry on.
Intuition of inner compass.
Fully alive, enjoying the journey.
Travel lightly, with awe, wonder and gratitude.
The long cut.

“I was wise enough never to grow up,
while fooling people into believing I had.”― Margaret Mead
