To Be Seen, To See

“How hidden the heart, Nance thought. How frightened we are of being known, and yet how desperately we long for it.”― Hannah Kent, The Good People

“We are all givers and receivers, we all need each other and are called to enrich each other.” – Pope Francis

My good friend Angi asked me to stop by yesterday to give me something.
She started art of needle felting recently.
She felted figures of Abby and Sasha for me, adding a tennis ball for Abby too – nailed it!
Beautiful detailed art, simple profound kindness.
Blown away!

In a world when we often feel unseen, we have the power to see each other.
What’s right in front of us.
To offer the generosity of seeing others, noticing, sharing.

That’s what Pope Francis did in and for the world.
That’s what Angi did in my world yesterday.
That’s what each of us can do each day in different ways.

Do not bypass, rush past, miss what and who is in front of you this day.
And let them know you see them.
We see ourselves when we see others too.

Kindness, acceptance, love feed the receiver and the giver.

“It’s beautiful when someone recognizes and appreciates us for who we are, for how we are, without trying to change us, and without any judgment. Unconditional acceptance is the truest form of love.”― Akiroq Brost

A Lamp, A Lifeboat, A Ladder

“Meaning springs from belonging.”― David Steindl-Rast

“Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd.”― Rumi

Get out of your head and into the world.
We can do something to change things for the better.
Our shared calling, purpose.
Simple acts.
Kindness, laughter, joy, generosity, enthusiasm, a smile, a call, a text.
Love in action daily, with intention and abandon.
That is the only way we change the world and ourselves in the process.
Love multiples, animates, expands, deepens, invites, welcomes, embraces, accompanies, listens, carries, holds, amplifies.
Go out and love others today.
A lamp, a lifeboat, a ladder.

“God’s definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how we love.”― Francis Chan, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God

Bridge Work

“What I do is the opposite of building walls. I build bridges. A bridge is something that connects instead of separating.” – Santiago Calatrava

“What I do is the opposite of building walls. I build bridges. A bridge is something that connects instead of separating.” – Santiago Calatrava

“The hardest thing in life to learn is which bridge to cross and which to burn.” – David Russell

In, of
From, for
Before, after
Along, between
On, off
Until, except
Over, under

Prepositions are words that “indicate relationships with other words in the sentence” per Grammarly.
Bridges, connections, pathways to tie pieces together.
Creating story, meaning.
What are your “from”s? – where have you been?
What are your “for”s? – or who, for what reason, for what purpose?

What bridges needs to be crossed over to get from “before” to “after” and remain there, not circling back again and again?

Find a bridge or two today. Build a few too. Bridges rather than walls. Connect, pass over, enjoy the journey and all that ties it together.

“There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning.” – Thornton Wilder
