Bloom Recklessly

“Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.”― Rainer Maria Rilke

“If you will stay close to nature, to its simplicity, to the small things hardly noticeable, those things can unexpectedly become great and immeasurable.”― Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Look not too far ahead nor back and miss the show.
The one of reckless bloom of the present.
The dance of seasons woven together.
Winter rest to spring burst, summer in the wings.
On the cusp, tipping points, transitions, transformation.
Do not skip your turn.
What’s in your foreground?
Arms reach awaiting noticing and attention?
Reach.
Bloom recklessly, with great abandon.
In this very day.

“Let your beauty manifest itself
without talking and calculation.
You are silent. It says for you: I am.
And comes in meaning thousandfold,
comes at long last over everyone.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

May in May

“The present is the closest that you will ever get to the future.”― Mokokoma Mokhonoana

MAY by Donna Ashworth

“May your days be filled with laughter.
May your chores complete themselves.
May your mind have time to wander.
To a sandy beach of shells.

May your morning stretch be graceful.
May your lunch be full of taste.
May your inspiration find you.
May no moment go to waste.

May your lonely days be lacking.
May your friendships linger strong.
May your thoughts be full of wonder.
May your worries all be gone.

May your money flow like water.
May your problems float away.
May your needs be met and more so.
May you wake to sunny days.

May you find the strength inside you.
May you learn to look within.
May you see yourself more kindly.
May that journey now begin.”

May you be open to invite the mays, the blessings, the gifts of May.
The month where spring takes center stage and bursts with color, vibrancy, life.
An cue, prompt, call to participate, partake, begin anew.
The threshold to summer ease.
May spring spring in you.
Reawaken, rebirth, transformation.
May you allow in amidst the dailyness of tasks, imperfection, challenges, grief, gratitude.
All held in love, kindness and grace.

“Perhaps some detours aren’t detours at all. Perhaps they are actually the path.”― Katherine Wolf, Hope Heals: A True Story of Overwhelming Loss and an Overcoming Love

Here, Now

“A lifetime may not be long enough to attune ourselves fully to the harmony of the universe. But just to become aware that we can resonate with it — that alone can be like waking up from a dream.”― David Steindl-Rast

“The ideal art, the noblest of art: working with the complexities of life, refusing to simplify, to “overcome” doubt.”― Joyce Carol Oates, The Journal of Joyce Carol Oates: 1973-1982

Right where you stand.
Awake, aware, present.
Fully, deeply, completely.
Wonder, awe, delight.
Sacred ground.
This very moment.

“We inhabit ourselves without valuing ourselves,
unable to see that here, now,
this very moment is sacred;
but once it’s gone –
its value is incontestable.”― Joyce Carol Oates

The Spring of Things

“Seeds emerge as small plants when they break through their shell and reach for the sun, growing past the soil that has nurtured them. When flowers are ready they open to the light. In nature, growth is normal and natural. The same is true for us. We’re intended to stretch past who we perceive ourselves to be to grow into the glory of who we truly are.” – Rev Jane Beach

Morning Poem by Mary Oliver

Every morning
the world
is created.
Under the orange

sticks of the sun
the heaped
ashes of the night
turn into leaves again

and fasten themselves to the high branches–
and the ponds appear
like black cloth
on which are painted islands

of summer lilies.
If it is your nature
to be happy
you will swim away along the soft trails

for hours, your imagination
alighting everywhere.
And if your spirit
carries within it

the thorn
that is heavier than lead–
if it’s all you can do
to keep on trudging–

there is still
somewhere deep within you
a beast shouting that the earth
is exactly what it wanted–

each pond with its blazing lilies
is a prayer heard and answered
lavishly,
every morning,

whether or not
you have ever dared to be happy,
whether or not
you have ever dared to pray.”

Revel in the spring of things.
Flowers making their grand entrance to center stage.
The sun rise earlier, lingering later too.
The earth waking up each day calling all to anchor feet, raise arms.
A celebration of flourishing.
Winter to spring.
Hope fulfilled.
Vibrancy, color, beauty.
Without and within.
The dance of the spring of all things.
Dance.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”― Maya Angelou

Clear Joy

“For we live in the kingdom of joy.
Do not give your heart to anything else
But to the love of those who are clear joy,
Do not stray into the neighborhood of despair.” – Rumi

“Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.”― Rumi

In the crack and crevices.
Thin spaces.
Wide places.
At your feet.
In between.
Beginnings, ends.
Fits and starts.
Amidst the ordinary.
Slivers and whole.
Beauty, light, color, brilliance.
Pause to anchor, root, prepare for flight.
Clear joy.

“Be like the sun for grace and mercy. Be like the night to cover others’ faults. Be like running water for generosity. Be like death for rage and anger. Be like the Earth for modesty. Appear as you are. Be as you appear.”― Rumi

Belonging and Beloved

“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”
― Brené Brown, Daring Greatly

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”― Brene Brown

You belong.
That doesn’t require fitting in everywhere and with everyone.
Nor perfection or completeness.
Being you is the only requirement.
Wherever you are at on whatever path behind or ahead, you are loved.
Keep blooming into the flower that you are becoming each day.
Rooting deep in your own uniqueness, hue, nuance and color.
Be kind, love and find joy right where you are planted.
Infinite light.
You are loved.
You belong.

“Stop walking through the world looking for confirmation that you don’t belong. You will always find it because you’ve made that your mission. Stop scouring people’s faces for evidence that you’re not enough. You will always find it because you’ve made that your goal. True belonging and self-worth are not goods; we don’t negotiate their value with the world. The truth about who we are lives in our hearts. Our call to courage is to protect our wild heart against constant evaluation, especially our own. No one belongs here more than you.”― Brené Brown, Braving the Wilderness

A Sacred Thing

“A journey can become a sacred thing.
Make sure, before you go,
To bless your going forth,
To free your heart of ballast
So that the compass of your soul
Might direct you towards
The territories of spirit
Where you will discover
More of your hidden life;
And the urgencies
That deserve to claim you.” – John O’Donohue

The Hero Path by Joseph Campbell

“We have not even to risk the adventure alone
for the heroes of all time have gone before us.
The labyrinth is thoroughly known …
we have only to follow the thread of the hero path.
And where we had thought to find an abomination
we shall find a God.
And where we had thought to slay another
we shall slay ourselves.
Where we had thought to travel outwards
we shall come to the center of our own existence.
And where we had thought to be alone
we shall be with all the world.”

May awe, wonder, ease claim you today.
In the temporal and transcendent.
Thin spaces, wide open fields.
Big and small.
Far and wide.
Near and far.
Moving, unfolding, and following that still small voice.
Trusting intuition, swimming upstream, going off trail.
Inquiry, open, awake.

“One of the most exciting and energizing forms of thought is the question. I always think that the question is like a lantern. It illuminates new landscapes and new areas as it moves. Therefore, the question always assumes that there are many different dimensions to a thought that you are either blind to or that are not available to you. One of the reasons that we wonder is because we are limited, and that limitation is one of the great gateways of wonder.”― John O’Donohue, Walking in Wonder: Eternal Wisdom for a Modern World

Next Up

“I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.” – e. e. cummings

“I imagine that yes is the only living thing.” –  e. e. cummings

Lilacs on the cusp of bursting.
Blue dream of sky.
Rain on Tuesday should advance the bloom.
Short lived but powerful fragrance and soft purple.
Remaining gratefully present with one foot in hope for what’s next up.
Like the flowers surety, steadfastness and certainty.
The lessons of the season of bloom.
In nature and within.

“If everything on earth were rational, nothing would happen.”― Dostoevski

Spring Awakening

“There’s so much around us that’s trying to put us to sleep. In the quiet, we wake up.” – Wess Daniels

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one.
It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense
of direction.
It’s going to cost you relationships and friends.
It’s going to cost you being liked and understood.
It doesn’t matter.
The people who are meant for you are going to meet you
on the other side. You’re going to build a new comfort
zone around the things that actually move you forward.
Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved. Instead of
being understood, you’re going to be seen.
All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you
no longer are.”― Brianna Wiest, The Mountain Is You

From winter to spring.
Slow greening.
Threshold to new life.
Brimming with color
Overflowing with possibility.
Make space.
Put down the old.
Gather the new, fresh.
New comfort zones.
Broadened horizons.
Quiet awakening.
Gratitude in the unfolding.

“It’s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.”― Germany Kent

The Art of Just Being

“It’s not about getting over things, it’s about making room for them. It’s about painting the picture with contrast.”― Brianna Wiest

“The key to finding happiness in this life is realizing that the only way to overcome is to transcend; to find happiness in the simple pleasures, to master the art of just being.”― Brianna Wiest

Nuance.
Shades.
Shadows.
White space.
Hues.
Tones.
Muted.
Bright.
Contrast.
Rarely black and white.
Nor ordered perfectly.
Allow and enter the beauty, depth, mystery, color, unfolding, cadence, symphony and rhythm.
May you allow happiness to rise right where you stand now.
The beautiful art of just being, embracing and being held in gratitude and grace.

“Happiness is not something you can chase. It is something you have to allow. This likely will come as a surprise to many people, as the world is so adamant about everything from positive psychology to motivational Pinterest boards. But happiness is not something you can coach yourself into. Happiness is your natural state. That means you will return to it on your own if you allow the other feelings you want to experience to come up, be felt, be processed, and not resisted. The less you resist your unhappiness, the happier you will be. It is often just trying too hard to feel one certain way that sets us up for failure.”― Brianna Wiest, The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery
