Thread the Needle

“A gentle heart is tied with an easy thread.”― George Herbert

“Every day is the first day we’ve ever done today, so maybe there just needs to be a little more acknowledgment of the amateur who lives and actually thrives in each of us.”― Annie F. Downs, That Sounds Fun: The Joys of Being an Amateur, the Power of Falling in Love, and Why You Need a Hobby

Auto pilot disengaged
Downshifting to slow
Thread the needle attention, focus
Single-tasking
Look up and around
Take in the view
This is the journey
Tending to this day
Looking for the lovely
Loving well

“… to pause is to win & to rest can actually be part of the victory.”― Annie F. Downs, Looking for Lovely: Collecting the Moments that Matter

Elected Silence

“Life is so urgent it necessitates living slow.”― Ann Voskamp

“ELECTED Silence, sing to me
And beat upon my whorlèd ear,
Pipe me to pastures still and be
The music that I care to hear.”
― Gerard Manley Hopkins, Poems and Prose

In slowness, depth, breadth, width
Soften, yield, open
In quietness, rhythm, flow, music
Stillness, witness, wonder
In reflection, gratitude, grace, awe
Center, root, anchor
Sacred ground, sit and stay awhile.

“The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before… So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running.” —Jan L. Richardson

a place of encounter

“Any place is sacred ground, for it can become a place of encounter with the divine Presence.”
― David Steindl-Rast, A Listening Heart: The Spirituality of Sacred Sensuousness

“Try pausing right before and right after undertaking a new action, even something simple like putting a key in a lock to open a door. Such pauses take a brief moment, yet they have the effect of decompressing time and centering you.”― David Steindl-Rast

There’s a difference between pausing and delay.
Pausing marks time, widens the view, abundance overflows, gratitude ensues.
Delaying too long, narrows the view, scarcity overflows, options few.
Pause, center, come alive, deep breath, re-enter made new, create, contribute, give, receive.
The dance of pause and movement.
Sacred ground.

“Sometimes people get the mistaken notion that spirituality is a separate department of life, the penthouse of existence. But rightly understood, it is a vital awareness that pervades all realms of our being… Wherever we may come alive, that is the area in which we are spiritual.”― David Steindl-Rast
