Witness

“Observe, record, tabulate, communicate. Use your five senses. Learn to see, learn to hear, learn to feel, learn to smell, and know that by practice alone you can become expert.” – William Osler

Last night, I strolled through photos – birthdays, water skiing, vacations, graduations, every day moments. It seems like yesterday and we look so young. Photos allow us to witness our lives, our journey. Slices of life – moments captured, memories made. As we get swept away with daily “busyness,” we let moments pass unnoticed.

This photo is absolutely one of my favorites of my parents, Molly and Elly. Today marks the day four years ago that I had to say good-bye to Elly after 12 years of friendship and sweet memories. While I still miss her every day, I am grateful for being a witness to and participant in her life and hers in mine. Take notice. See, hear, feel and express your gratitude each day to those who walk the journey with you. It’s a good life, a very good one. Embrace it.

  2. Very well stated and I 100% agree!

Think of the moments in your life that has been extraordinarily special to you. No, not the moments that is built up to be something grand or something showy but the experiences that I write of often, the ones that you will carry with you forever.

What about them made them special for you? If you think about it, you will realize that it was what YOU put into them. It was your own effort, your commitment to the moment, your heart and that part of yourself that you gave to the moment.

Each of us need to always remember that the moments of our life are only as special as we make them. It is what you give to all of your moments that makes your life meaningful. If we give more the more you are, the more you become.

A major part of our lives are defined by the contributions that you make in the many moments in your life and not by the things that you own our how many parties you go to or how many friends you have on Facebook or Twitter. It is your physical life with the ones connected to you that matter and the moments contained within them.

Think of it this way. Great art only happens when the artist puts himself into his work. Great literature comes only when the writer puts himself into his story. Your life becomes so much more for you and those connected to you when you put your heart into it and into all of your moments.

Tomorrow stop and recognize the moments and make them more special by putting yourself into them.

  3. We have family photos from different eras of our life together throughout our house. In the bedroom, in the living room, even in the laundry room. I was doing some laundry about a week ago, and my eyes caught a glimpse of the collage above the sink, images from when my son was but a toddler. As I look at them, I can’t help but smile and remember the precious moments shared with him and my wife. It helps you realize just how special everyday moments are. And it helps you to recognize that those same moments are occurring every single day when we take the opportunity to immerse ourselves in them. Wonderful post, thank you for sharing 😉
